I recently began to explore the other settings my Cricut Explore Air 2 has to offer. Lately, I have been “DIY-ing” up a storm with the adhesive and heat transfer vinyl projects I’ve completed. When I was gifted my Cricut, it came with a sample pack of faux leather, and to be honest, when I first received my Cricut I was completely overwhelmed with the endless amounts of possibilities for creation. One rainy day when I felt comfortable in my knowledge with vinyl projects, I decided it was time to move forward, to truly appreciate the Cricut, I knew I had to expand on y project ideas and take advantage of what it has to offer.
Like most of the U.S. I am obsessed with Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper. (Shoutout to Waco, TX, home of the Magnolia Silos- would you like a separate blog post on that or would it just give you FOMO?) While I was waiting in the checkout line at HEB I saw her on the cover of a magazine wearing these adorable leather earrings… the rest is history!
I immediately began researching tips for cutting faux leather and hit my nearest Hobby Lobby for some earring supplies (super cheap, packs in bulk for around $2.00). I was actually amazed by how easy these were to make, the Cricut is amazing and the supplies really go a long way. I’ve already made ten pairs of earrings and am not even close to running out of materials- which is great, because once people saw them on my instagram (@thenotoriousblg or @ivinealot) I have been getting more and more requests!
If you’re interested in making a pair for yourself, you can find some tips for the process below! Again, it was super easy!
Tip #1: Set the dial on the machine 1/2way between cardstock and vinyl, you can use the same blade you use for vinyl cutting.
Tip #2: Place the faux leather face down on your cutting mat to avoid the machine guides leaving an imprint.
Tip #3: Find an SVG you love, duplicate it for a pair and cut away!! It really is that simple.
I used the piercing tool and tweezers to connect the pieces I cut to the hardware. I also used gold and silver metallic Cricut pens to add accents. These earrings look stunning and are super light dangling from the ear lobes, double win!

As always, if you have any comments/ questions or suggestions on what to work on next, please let me know!!
While we attempt to navigate life in a new city, life in a new home and life in a global pandemic- our days look drastically different than they did six months ago. While one of my favorite things to do is frequent local restaurants, we have had more time on our hands to create unique […]
I feel like- if there’s one fact everyone knows about me solely from social media, it’s that I’m obsessed with chocolate and cheese. Seriously, if I’m not posting about eating chocolate, I’m posting about eating cheese. One of my favorite gifts I have received is my Swiss ceramic fondue pot made for both chocolate and […]
Jon and I recently moved across the country (again) and this time it was during a pandemic. All things considered, the move went pretty well- but it definitely was not easy to adjust living in a new home and in a new city during “lockdown.” When we left Texas, we left a lot of the […]
